HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY KNIFE?

Visit our Maintenance page for best practices maintaining and caring for your knife.

WILL MTN FORGED SHARPEN MY KNIFE?

We offer a lifetime sharpening service on every MTN Forged knife. There is no cost for this service, aside from that of shipping your knife to and from our facility. To take advantage of this service, visit our Warranty & Repair page and submit a request for sharpening.

This service is optional and not a requirement for warranty. If you choose to sharpen your own knife, please ensure that you use proper technique. Improper sharpening of your knife may result in damage to your blade, causing your knife to malfunction or worse. This type of damage is not covered under our Limited Lifetime Warranty.

MY KNIFE IS BROKEN, CAN I SEND IT IN FOR REPAIR?

First, verify that your knife is in fact broken. Your knife may just need cleaning in order to resume proper function. Please visit our Maintenance page to learn how to properly clean and care for your knife.

Its also possible that the safety mechanism within your knife was triggered, temporarily disabling the firing mechanism. Please see the next F.A.Q "My OTF won't deploy or lock into position. What should I do?" to learn how to reset your knife.

If you find that your knife still does not function properly after cleaning and resetting the spring, it may need to be sent in for repair. In most cases, the repairs will be covered under the Limited Lifetime Warranty. In the event that the repairs are not covered under warranty, there may be additional costs associated with repairing your knife. If repairs are needed requiring additional charges, you will be contacted by a representative from our Warranty & Repair Department. Please see our Warranty & Repair page to learn more about the this process.

MY OTF KNIFE WONT DEPLOY OR LOCK INTO POSITION. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Each OTF knife is equipped with a fail-safe mechanism that temporarily disengages the spring if the blade encounters any resistance during deployment. If this happens, your blade will slide loosely along its track inside the handle. This prevents you from "shooting" the blade into yourself or anyone else upon deployment.

To reset the blade, hold the handle firmly with one hand. With the other hand, carefully pinch the blade between your thumb and index finger and pull the blade out of the handle and into its fully deployed position. The blade should lock into position, at which point your firing button will continue to function like normal.

Dirt and other debris can sometimes prevent your knife from firing correctly. Visit our Maintenance page for detailed instructions on how to clean and care for your O.T.F. If your knife fails to function properly after cleaning, you may need to send your knife in for repair. Please see our Warranty & Repair page to learn more about the this process.

ARE OTF KNIVES LEGAL WHERE I LIVE?

There are certain states that do not allow O.T.F. knives to be carried by civilians. Active military and law enforcement officers are the exception and are permitted to carry automatic knives in any state. Review the map below as general reference to see if it is legal to carry an O.T.F. knife in your state. By purchasing an O.T.F. from our website, you are acknowledging that you have the legal capacity to do so. There are many state laws regarding knives. Consult the AKTI Website for a full outline of knife laws and regulations in the United States.
